Ford has confirmed that the Mustang-inspired electric SUV will offer 370 miles (600km) of driving range, once it arrives in the market next year.

The brand’s first dedicated all-electric model wants to establish itself as a truly “electrifying” SUV, offering not only the longest range among EVs in the market, but also a proper fun-to-drive character to match its “Mustang-inspired” looks. Ford said that the “Mach 1”, as it was originally named, will make its first appearance late this year.

Ford’s electrification agenda also includes the addition of another smaller compact crossover, based either on the C2 platform that underpins the Focus and the new Kuga or (most likely) the re-engineered architecture of the Fiesta. The mystery mild-hybrid crossover, which will probably replace the ageing EcoSport, is expected to be more of a raised hatchback than an outright SUV, as seen in scoops (below picture).

All Ford models available in Europe will become available with at least one electrified option in the near future, with the company showcasing both the Focus and the Fiesta with their upcoming mild-hybrid EcoBoost powertrains, without revealing any technical specs.

Commercial customers will also be pleased to learn that Ford is planning to introduce an all-electric version of the Transit in 2021.
